Marie Petter is a 58 year-old mother and grandmother who was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident thirty years ago. She all but had to have her ankle reattached and was in a body cast for almost nine months. At the time, her husband divorced her and left her with a very young family. It took years for Marie to start running again, but she did.
For the last twenty years she has experienced constant pain from her crumbled, barely functioning ankle while never knowing how she would be feeling on race morning. Marie started competing in triathlons five years ago and has completed many races, including two half-Ironman distance races over the past two years. She ahs finished these races as one of the last, but always with a smile on her face.
